AUGUST

August 1: I don't know any other way to lead but by example.

    Lord, I pray that You will enable me to go beyond my normal coaching duties to make a difference in the lives of those You send to me.  I pray they will know that there is nothing impossible when they place their trust in You. I realize I am just a steward over all You give me.  Help me live a life of victory in You so my players will do the same. - Amen

August 2: Cultivate an atmosphere where the individual believes their own ability and effort positively influences the mission of the organization. 
    Father God, thank You for your willingness to overcome my past, present, and future pain through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Amen. 

August 3: The single most important word in any language regarding success: BELIEVE.
    Lord, enlighten the eyes of my heart so my vision may be for You and how, together, we can guide my team to a championship that lasts forever. Amen

August 4: Learn to listen.  Most people do not listen with intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply. - Stephen R. Covey

     Merciful God, help me to wait on You today as You create in me an eternal perspective.  Amen. 

August 5: Anticipate the difficult by managing the easy.  - Mark Dantonio
    Lord Jesus, help us be coaches who glorify God.  Help us serve You as we teach others about life and about You.  You are the master planner and strategist in our lives, and we want to please You in our athletic endeavors. Amen.

    Father, I pray that I can accept those I coach who don't believe in You.  Open my heart to them.  Help me minister to them in a way that You will bring them to know You. Amen.  

August 9: Improvement is a process, not an outcome. 

                                           
    Lord, I pray that You would place people in front of me who need to hear Your salvation message.  Give me the words that You know they need to hear. Lord, You gave me this life.  Please take it and use it to build Your kingdom here on earth.  Use me as Your servant, taking me where You know Your message of salvation needs to be heard.  Amen. 

August 10: One person with passion is better than 40 people merely interested. - E.M. Forster
    Lord, give me wisdom to see what direction my life and my team are headed. Show me Your will and give me the strength to follow You. Amen.

August 11: Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results. -Unknown
    Lord, I pray that we as coaches will understand that Christ can use us now, right where we are.  We do not have to be perfect; we never will be.  We are a work in progress. I pray for courage and conviction to take a stand for Christ. Amen.

August 12: Most bad attitudes are the result of selfishness. 
    Eternal God, guide me this day with the mind of Christ, and protect my heart with the grace that wisdom brings. Amen.

    Father, show me when I am calling my own plays, and may I always yield myself to Your will.  Amen. 

August 14: There are so many managers who can figure costs, and so few who can measure value.

Hold my feet to the path You have chosen for me.  Help me, as a coach, to allow my players to see You directing my steps both on and off the court.  Keep me strong in my desire to seek Your will first in all areas of my life.  Thank you for loving me.     Heavenly Father; help me to stay strong in my commitment to You by carefully leading the people in my charge.  Help me to be faithful with the talents You've given me. Amen.

    Heavenly Father; help me to remember the example Jesus gave us for prayer.  When major decisions need to be made, help me to spend time with You.  Give me clarity of mind so I may truly spend my prayer time alone with You, without distraction.  Thank you, Father, for the privilege of prayer.     Lord, please forgive me for worrying and forgetting how much You love me and care for me.  I pray that You will turn my fears into faith as I remember Your provision in Jesus Christ. Amen.

August 20: Honor: if you need it defined, you don't have any. - Ron Swanson
   Lord, I pray that You will use me in my calling as a coach.  I pray that You will enable me to be an effective head of the team that I have been blessed with and positively impact the players in a godly manner.  I also ask that I will be used to do Your will as a member of the Body of Christ. Amen. 

August 21: No pressure, no diamonds. - Mary Case
    Lord, help me prepare myself each day to be the coach You have called me to be.  I confess that I have not always prepared myself spiritually the way You want me to.  Help me to put on Your armor so I may successfully fight the battles that come my way. Amen.

August 22: The most important ingredient to winning: No personal agendas.  The commitment has to be "us" driven not "me" driven.  - Kevin Eastman
   
 Father, help me learn from the past and then forget it, and to look to You in times of struggle.  Amen.

August 24: Communication is not just about speaking, it's equally about listening. 
    Father, please give us the creativity and energy we need to coach this generation of athletes for Your sake in Jesus' name, Amen.

August 25: Character is NOT how you carry yourself when everyone is watching, but rather how you carry yourself when nobody is watching. 
    Thank You, Lord of the universe, for sending Jesus Christ to love and to serve the world so that my life might become an extension of HIs great sacrifice. Amen.

   Lord, You know that I want to be the best coach I can be, but not at the expense of my relationship with You or my family.  Help me develop a schedule that reflects my desire to put You first, my family second, and coaching third. Amen.

    Lord, I pray that You will help me have the heart of a servant.  I desire to be all that You have called me to be in my responsibility as a coach.  I confess to not being the servant that You desire.  I acknowledge that it is only by Your grace and mercy that I can serve as You served. Thank You, Lord, for being my master coach. Amen.    

August 28: Treat people like they make a difference, and they will. - Jim Goodnight
    Lord, forgive me for not spending quality time with You. Help me keep my priorities straight. Thank you for the invitation and opportunity to fellowship with You.  I promise to glorify You in everything I do because You have made this day possible, and everything I do is because of You. Amen.

Lord, Your reality always meets my needs. I pray that You will continually remind me of Your will for my life and of my need to submit to Your sovereignty with an obedient heart.  Please forgive me for those areas in my life where I have not practiced obedience, and help me to improve so that my earthly performance glorifies You.  Thank you for the freedom to follow in Your footsteps.  Amen
